Metrics wishlist

• compression error bias, normalized by compression error std
  • this also tells us about the cumulative error from integrating the data
• matching non-finite values (+inf, -inf, NaN)
• MAE on the first derivative (which dimension?)
  • this gives us a very simple quantity of interest to test for
